Homemade Hamburger Heaven

Homemade hamburgers like this one are tastier and more fun than bought burgers, and can be on your plate in 15 minutes. Recipes designed by SuperValue in partnership with the Canterbury District Health Board.

Ingredients

Burger Patties:
400g beef mince
1 medium onion, finely cut
4 cloves garlic, crushed
2 tsp curry powder
1 tsp cumin
1/4-1/2 tsp dried chilli powder
pinch salt and pepper
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp rice bran oil or canola oil

Fillings:
Your favourite burger ingredients
eg: shredded lettuce, sliced canned beetroot, sliced tomatoes, grated carrot, chutney, lite mayonnaise

Hints & Tips

Hint: Burgers are a fantastic way of encouraging children to make their own meals.
Value Added Tip: If you have more than four mouths to feed you can stretch the patty mixture by adding some breadcrumbs and/or some grated apple,
carrot or courgette.

Cooking Instructions

1. Mix the patty ingredients together. Form into rounds the same dimension as the buns.
2. Lightly fry in the oil, about 5 minutes on each side or until cooked.
3. Serve in the halved burger buns with a selection of your favourite fillings.
