Christmas Mincemeat

The perfect make ahead recipe for Christmas mince pies on the day!

It may look fiddly with so many ingredients, but it is not!


  • 350g jars mincemeat
  • 75g currants
  • 75g raisins
  • 175g sultanas
  • 1 large green apple, peeled and finely diced
  • 100g butter
  • 225g caster sugar
  • 75g almonds, chopped
  • 1 heaped teaspoon mixed spice (see below)
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • zest of 1 orange
Mixed Spice
  • 225ml brandy
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground allspice

  1. In a small bowl, combine the mixed spice ingredients.
  2. Combine the currants, raisins, sultanas, apple, butter, and sugar in a saucepan. Cook, stirring, over low heat until the butter has melted. Stir in the almonds, cinnamon, heaping teaspoon of the mixed spice and orange zest. Heat to a simmer and cook 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool, then stir in the brandy.
  4. Use immediately in mince pies or spoon into sterilized jars. This will keep in the fridge for up to 6 weeks.
