Bacon & Cheese Scones

This cheese and bacon scone recipe is a Kiwi staple!

Serve slathered with plenty of butter with your morning or afternoon cuppa!


  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ¾ cup cheese
  • ¼ cup cooked bacon
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • butter or oil for brushing

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C. Mix together the first 3 ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Using your hands rub the butter into flour mixture until the mixture resembles a crumble like texture.
  3. Place in the freezer for 5 minutes. Remove from the freezer and add the rest of the ingredients to create a dough.
  4. Cut 8 wedges out from the dough, and on a lightly greased baking sheet, place the wedges 2 inches apart and brush the tops with butter or oil.
  5. Bake for 13-15 minutes or until golden.
